How Peyton's growing:
Your baby's growing steadily, gaining about a quarter of a pound since last week, when she was just over a pound. Since she's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), that makes a pretty lean figure, but her body is filling out proportionally and she'll soon put on more baby fat. Your baby's skin is thin, translucent, and wrinkled, her brain is growing rapidly, and her taste buds are developing. Her lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" and cells that produce surfactant, a substance **that helps the air sacs inflate easily.
The top of your uterus is now an inch or so above your belly button, which means it's about the size of a soccer ball.
*My belly has grown so much in the past couple of weeks that I can agree with this statement about it being the size of a soccer ball.

Happy Monday!
Monday was a big day packed full of fun, joy and excitment. We were so happy to have our good friends Scott and Shana back in Manhattan for the day. Had another doctors appointment to check everything out. Then went to Kansas City for the men's basketball game at the Sprint Center and were joined by both of our parents.
Update for the doctor: Both of us are doing great. My belly is measuring in between 23 to 24 weeks, which is great since I am 23 weeks and 6 days. Her heartbeat was strong and while we were listening we got a little treat because Peyton gave a nice big kick. Granted the sound wasn't pretty to hear, but Brandon and I enjoyed it.
It was so great to see some of our best friends Scott and Shana. They use to live here in Manhattan and moved to Phoenix this summer, so this is the first time that we have seen them since they left. We had to make sure and get a few pictures taken together at lunch before they headed back to Kansas City to catch their flight. We miss them so much and it made our Monday and week that they were here.
Here is Shana and I and Peyton. My belly is growing so much that it was a little bit of a shock to see it in this picture. Shana is so excited for baby Peyton and I am glad that she was here to see me while I have a belly. Miss you Shana!

Here we are at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. It is a very beautiful arena and was a fun game packed with lots of purple.

We had great tickets on the floor. Things seemed like they were going to be a mess since the Sprint Center double printed our tickets. Everything worked out and we just moved over right behind the bench.

Here is a view of what it was like watching the game last night. We were in the second row on the floor right behind the Florida A&M bench. The game was on FSN and I am sure that we were on TV!
It was a late night...got back to Manhattan after midnight...but we had a great day and looking forward to Christmas and spending time with family.

23 Weeks...
How Peyton is growing:
Your baby is more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango). She may be able to feel your movements now, so put on some tunes and dance around the house. No matter what race your baby is, she looks red now due to blood vessels showing through her transparent skin. Her true skin tone will develop over the course of her first year. Blood vessels in your baby's lungs are developing to prepare her for breathing, but complete lung development will take many more months. The lungs are the last organ to fully develop.

The animal with the longest gestation period? Elephants. Their pregnancies last about two years.

Belly Pic at 23 weeks
As promised here are more belly pictures! You can tell I have grown a little more since the last belly post. I am 23 weeks and 1 day and feeling great. She is most active in the evenings, so last night it was around 9:30pm and she was kicking up a storm. I felt her all the way up until I fell asleep around 11pm.
Here I am in my clothes, so you can see what my little bump looks like everyday for work. Thanks to Brandon for getting me some shirts to wear! My normal shirts just were not cutting it anymore.

Now that I am growing more and more everyday, I will make sure and post updated belly pics more often. I have a doctors appointment on Monday, so I will be able to update you on how much we are growing then.

The Ice Storm of 2007
If you were wondering...No, I did not wish for snow on my birthday!
Things have been crazy here in Manhattan with the ice and snow. From Monday night into Tuesday afternoon we ended up getting an inch of ice. Brandon and I were one of the lucky few that did not lose power. Over 13,000 people lost power and there are still many without it today. It was nice to have the day off yesterday and I was thankful that I went to the store Monday afternoon to get a few snacks for us to eat during the day. We are back to work today, but getting around town is hard with many trees down and blocking the roads. Here are a few pictures of the trees that are right behind our apartment.
This is the tree that is right outside our deck and it is really pretty all full of ice. This tree is holding strong and not lost any branches.

This poor tree is right outside our bedroom window and Monday night into early Tuesday morning we listened to many of the branches come crashing down. You can see that it lost most of all the branches on the top and to the right side. They have not started cleaning any of the trees up in the apartment complex, so we'll have to see if this tree is going to be cut out when the weather gets warmer

It's my BIRTHDAY!
Today is my 26th Birthday, but I was lucky enough to celebrate it early with my family on Sunday afternoon. My Grandparents were having a Christmas Open House where they live and after lunch we went back to their apartment to eat some cake for my birthday. Brandon and I had to cut things short to get back to Manhattan for work Christmas parties, but with this weather we were glad to be getting home in the daylight. I love my family very much and thank you all for being there to celebrate this day with me.
Here I am blowing out my birthday candles with a little help from Jon. He was so cute and when everyone was done singing Happy Birthday to me he went to blow out the candles before I was ready. He was a little confused and thought that it was his birthday, but we had to let him know that he only has a month before his.
Here I am listen to all the wonderful voices singing me Happy Birhtday!
Here is the beautiful RED coat that my parents got me. I love it!
I got black boots! They are so comfortable and I can't wait to wear them. Thanks Mom and Dad.
Stacy and Jeremy got me more MAC eye make-up that I so needed. Thanks guys!
My Uncle Tom and Aunt Kelly got me a Willowtree. It is called an Angel Embrace and it is an Angel holding a young child. I have started collecting many of these and this is my first one with a child. I love it and it already looks great in the house. Thanks!
Thanks Grandma and Grandpa for the sweater. I love the color and I was just saying how I am running out of shirts that fit me very well right now. Thanks and I love you guys.

Baby Audrey hanging out while all the celebration was going on. She got this new outfit from Grandma and Grandpa and it is so cute on her. She was even lucky enough to see Santa Claus that day!
I have had a great birthday so far and I am looking forward to spending a night of relaxing. Brandon was going to take me out to dinner, but we are under an ice storm warning from 6pm tonight until 6pm on Tuesday, so we are going to play it safe and stay inside. Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes!

22 Weeks...
How Peyton's growing:
Your baby now looks like a miniature newborn, checking in at 10.9 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound. Her skin will continue to appear wrinkled until she gains enough weight to fill it out, and the fine hair (lanugo) that covers her head and body is now visible. Her lips are becoming more distinct, and the first signs of teeth are appearing as buds beneath her gum line. Her eyes are developed, though the iris (the colored part of the eye) still lacks pigment.
